Department Summary
Information Services (IS) is the central information technology unit at the University of Oregon and provides wide-ranging services to campus. Information Services consists of four major functional areas: Customer Experience, which serves as the key contact point for interactions with campus clients and customers; Applications & Middleware, which manages and supports applications, integration services, identity management and data management; Information Security, which helps protect virtual or physical information; and Technology Infrastructure, which provides administration and support for the software, hardware, and services needed to support the campus IT environment. Information Services also includes the Advanced Network Technology Center. IS works closely with the Network for Education and Research in Oregon.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Systems and Automation Services, the Systems Infrastructure Specialist will be a member of the Enterprise Systems group and part of a team devoted to installation, configuration, integration, support, and maintenance of enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows servers. The incumbent in this position will apply general knowledge to address common problems of a limited scope as well as contribute to group tasks to resolve issues.

This position will work on a team with systems administrators and software administrators to enhance features, solve problems, and implement technical solutions. This position will be tasked with executing solutions engineered by other Systems Infrastructure Specialists staff, and will make decisions within established guidelines outlined in process documentation created by other team members. While the tasks are limited in scope, errors in judgment can result in failures of critical campus-wide systems, security failures, or loss of revenue. This position is expected to perform duties in accordance with current industry best practices and standards and OUS / UO policies and procedures as well as in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws.

Minimum Requirements
• This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field; or equivalent technical training and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in IT at a higher education institute at an enterprise level (hundreds of servers)
• Experience with VMWare and VRealize Automation
• Demonstrated experience writing new scripts in JavaScript, Python, Ruby, and/or Powershell to automate complex repetitive tasks
• Demonstrated basic knowledge in systems automation
• Knowledge of Enterprise network storage such as NetApp
• Experience with Enterprise backup solutions
• Knowledge of general database administration (Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle)
• Experience with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator or other enterprise antivirus solutions
• Experience with secure support platforms like Bomgar and LogMeIn
• Experience with scalable monitoring and out of band server management technologies including SCCM, Nagios, Zabbix, SCOM, Dell OpenManage and HP Systems Insight Manager
• Experience with ITSM/ITIL concepts including Incident and Change Management
